ARC Review of Alex by Sawyer Bennett

Goodreads Summary:
Hockey star Alexander Crossman has a reputation as a cold-hearted player on and off the rink. Pushed into the sport by an alcoholic father, Alex isn’t afraid to give fans the proverbial middle finger, relishing his role as the MVP they love to hate. Management, however, isn’t so amused. Now Alex has a choice: fix his public image through community service or ride the bench. But Alex refuses to be molded into the Carolina Cold Fury poster boy . . . not even by a tempting redhead with killer curves.

As a social worker, Sutton Price is accustomed to difficult people—like Alex, who’s been assigned to help her create a drug-abuse awareness program for at-risk youth as part of the team’s effort to clean up his image. What she doesn’t expect is the arrogant smirk from his perfect lips to stir her most heated fantasies. But Sutton isn’t one to cross professional boundaries—and besides, Alex doesn’t do relationships . . . or does he? The more she sees behind Alex’s bad-boy façade, the more Sutton craves the man she uncovers.

My Review:
I love hockey books! I am so glad Sawyer Bennett decided to write some!! Alex has had a rough life. He hasn’t become the jerk he is by choice. He is considered the MVP or Most Valuable Prick of the team. The fans don’t really like him and his team mates don’t know him. It’s sad really how alone he is in his life. No personal connections he is just living his life and playing hockey. It’s the first sports themed book I have read where the sports player doesn’t particularly like playing anymore. That’s how bad it is. He is one of the best in the league though so what do you do? Send him to do a drug awareness program with kids! Alex is tested with this task because he doesn’t want to do it. Then he meets Sutton and everything changes. Could this woman change his jerkish ways or is he destined to be alone and unhappy?

Sutton is the opposite of Alex. She is a counselor who works with many different people. She is the perfect person to do the drug awareness project. She loves what she does even though it is hard sometimes. She has dealt with a bad family situation that involved drugs so she is good at what she does. She isn’t too thrilled when Alex walks in her door. Especially after the warning she received from his coach about his behavior. She is also attracted to this guy. I mean he is hot so that instant attraction thing makes sense. Could this turn into something more or will Alex come through on his promise to break her heart?

These two were so fun to read about. I loved Sutton’s family. Her broth especially was awesome and Alex was great with him when he was around. Sutton has worked hard for what she has and is proud of it. She didn’t come from money. Alex’s lifestyle is so different to her. Although she learns that he’s not flashy about his money either. After they spend time together and Alex’s past starts coming to the surface Sutton’s opinion of him changes. The sexual tension between these two is thick but, there are a lot of obstacles. They do have some pretty hot romance scenes though! I mean wow.  They are so good together then the past and insecurities rear their ugly heads. I hated how Alex let his Dad manipulate him. I was like WHY! Why would you let him get in your head like that! He’s an ass!!! Do these two have a future together or will they be alone?

This was a great and fast read. I loved the hockey components but, they were not the focus. The romance was well written too. This is a great start to another series for Sawyer Bennett!!
