ARC Review of Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver

Goodreads Summary:
New York Times bestselling author Lauren Oliver delivers a gripping story about two sisters inexorably altered by a terrible accident.

Dara and Nick used to be inseparable, but that was before the accident that left Dara's beautiful face scarred and the two sisters totally estranged. When Dara vanishes on her birthday, Nick thinks Dara is just playing around. But another girl, nine-year-old Madeline Snow, has vanished, too, and Nick becomes increasingly convinced that the two disappearances are linked. Now Nick has to find her sister, before it's too late.

In this edgy and compelling novel, Lauren Oliver creates a world of intrigue, loss, and suspicion as two sisters search to find themselves, and each other.

My Review:
Vanishing Girls blew my mind. It was a psychological thriller that I was not expecting at all. This one was different from any YA book I have read in a long time. Nick and Dara are sisters who used to be friends. After the accident though everything changed. They are now estranged. When Nick goes home for a while things between them are very strained. Things with Nicks best friend and Dara's ex boyfriend. Nick still has a crush on him and after the accident things are even more weird for her. Dara vanishes on her birthday and this leaves Nick in a panic. There was another little girl who went missing too, Madeline Snow. Nick is convinced they disappearances are connected. Will Nick be able to find her sister or will she be to late?

The dynamic between Nick and Dara is very interesting. I can see why they had a falling out. The book is very well written. We get different POV's from before and after the accident. That way we get a back story too. I felt bad for them. I don't have a sister but, I would assume that having a best friend and then losing them would be awful. They had a decent relationship before and after the accident Nick blames herself for what happened to Dara. They do what ever they can to avoid each other. Nick tries very hard to find her sister. She is pretty worried something bad has happened given how Dara has been acting. This book takes a turn for the...I'm not even sure. Will Nick be able to save her sister?

This book has one of the biggest blog twists I have read about in a long time. Like I said it blew my mind and I was pleasantly surprised by this book! I have not read anything else by this author but, I definitely will now!

  2. I loved this book! It's just so real. It accurately portrays all the stuff that no one wants to talk about: reckless teens, sex, drinking. Nick and Dara's relationship was SO real. I could relate to both of them at different times in my life. The plot twist, although I guessed it 50% of the way in, still blew my mind. An emotional read for sure, but I enjoyed every minute! Lovely review!
